Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Interconnect Networks Pty Ltd (ACN 659 014 767, ABN 35 659 014 767), trading as WebShield (“WebShield”, “we”, “us”, “our”), collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and we make every reasonable effort to comply with them.
By using our services or our website, you agree to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this policy.
What personal information we collect
We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide our internet, filtering, VoIP, hosting and related services to you. Depending on how you deal with us, this may include:
- Identity and contact details — your name, residential or business address, service address, postal address, email address and phone numbers.
- Account and service information — the services and plans you hold, your username, service configuration, and support and complaint history.
- Billing and payment information — billing address, payment method, and card or bank details you provide to pay for your service.
- Verification and eligibility information — date of birth or proof of identity, and information used to assess your suitability for a product (which may, where applicable, include a credit assessment).
- Technical and usage information — information necessary to provision, operate, maintain and troubleshoot your service, such as connection details, service records and technical logs.
- Communications — records of your interactions with us, including emails, phone calls, support tickets and correspondence.
Where it is lawful and practicable, you may deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym. In most cases, however, we need to identify you in order to provide a telecommunications service.
How we collect personal information
We collect personal information directly from you — when you sign up, place an order, contact our support team, complete a form, or manage your account online. In some cases we collect information from third parties, such as network wholesalers and carriers involved in delivering your service, credit assessment providers, or a person you have authorised to act on your behalf.
How we use personal information
We use your personal information to:
- establish, provision, manage and support your services;
- verify your identity and assess your eligibility for a product;
- bill you and process payments;
- respond to your enquiries, requests and complaints;
- maintain the security and integrity of our network and systems;
- communicate with you about your service, including changes and service notices;
- improve our services and customer communication; and
- comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.
Direct marketing and your choices
From time to time we may use your contact details to tell you about our products, services and offers that may be of interest to you. You can opt out of receiving marketing communications from us at any time — by using the unsubscribe link in an electronic message, or by contacting us using the details below — and we will action your request. We do not use or disclose your personal information for the direct marketing of other organisations without your consent.
How we disclose personal information
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose your personal information to:
- network wholesalers, carriers and suppliers who help us deliver your service (for example, to provision or fault-find an NBN connection);
- payment processors and financial institutions to process your payments;
- credit assessment providers, where a credit assessment is appropriate;
- service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as IT, billing and support providers, who are required to protect your information;
- a person you have authorised to deal with us on your behalf; and
- government agencies, law enforcement or other parties where required or authorised by law.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that any third party we disclose your information to handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Overseas disclosure
We generally store and process your personal information in Australia. Some of the service providers that help us deliver, support or secure your service may store or process information using systems that could be located overseas. Where that occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure those providers handle your personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These measures include:
- storing customer information using software that meets industry standards;
- password-protecting access to our customer records, and encrypting critical client data where required;
- encrypting payment card details once entered, so they cannot be viewed;
- password-protecting and encrypting email account access, so that even staff members cannot view your email password;
- password-protecting access to the VoIP phone portal and the web hosting control panel; and
- restricting access to your information to authorised staff members only.
Any breach of these principles by our staff is taken seriously, and management may take disciplinary action as they see fit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to keep our measures current.
If a data breach involving your personal information occurs, we will assess it and respond in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Where a breach is likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals, we will notify those individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by that scheme.
Managing your account and passwords
We provide an online, server-based system so you can manage your account details. This lets you change your password and access settings. You can also request recovery of your password and other access details directly from our staff using the support email or phone number below, during business hours. Access to your online account records is included in your service at no extra charge.
Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days, consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. If we decline your request, we will explain why in writing where required.
Complaints about privacy
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below and we will do our best to resolve it. Our full complaints process is set out in our Complaints Handling Policy.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can refer your privacy complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) by calling 1300 363 992 or visiting oaic.gov.au.
